State Magazine to cease publication

0 Comments 14 January 2009

State reveal their 10th issue, and announce the end of their printed magazine:

The announcement of a new issue of State is usually a cause for celebration. In this case, our tenth issue is tinged with a certain sadness. This month is a little different to what’s gone before as there will be no printed version of this issue. It has been a real year of ups and downs for the magazine. We’ve had a ball in the last twelve months but circumstances beyond our control have interfered. We always felt the magazine was something which was sorely missing from the dialogue around music in Ireland, which judged Irish artists on the same criteria as international artists and treated music as the important cultural art it has become to us all.

Since it’s launch last year, State maintained an impressive standard in terms of it’s quality of writing, broad tastes and it’s top notch design. More importantly; it gave attention to good music without any agenda – covering Irish acts because they were good, not just because they were Irish and with a passion and genuine sense of excitement rarely seen in other publications.

The online version will continue at State.ie, and Analogue are still putting out issues of their quality free magazine; but it’s still a bit disheartening to see State leaving our shelves.
