Woods – Songs of Shame

1 Comment 26 March 2009

I’ve had Woods sitting in my “worth a bit of a listen” pile for awhile, but once I finally sat down and gave them some attention I felt a sense of guilt for having neglected them so long.

They seemed instantly familiar; touching on elements of The Byrds, the Velvet Underground and The Stooges; sounding like some sort of a 60’s psych / folk /garage / jam band supergroup. The songs are lazy, joyously messy and full of sweet vocal melodies, layered with splurges of hissy electric guitars and feedback.

This is already a perfect candidate for my sloppy summer sounds as the Irish climate starts to perk up and I go through my seasonal folkish phase (I’m not sure why this happens, last year it was James Blackshaw and Hush Arbors).

Songs of Shame is the 4th LP by Woods and is released on April 20th.

Excellent band indeed and Woods just seems like a perfect band name. How was it not already taken?
