This year’s Oxegen Festival has been announced, with Eminem, Muse and Jay-Z as headliners. The lineup is as follows:
Eminem, Muse, Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas, Kasabian, The Prodigy, Florence & The Machine, Paolo Nutini, Faithless, Stereophonic, David Guetta, Vampire Weekend, Mumford & Sons, John Mayer, Hot Chip, Calvin Harris, Newton Faulkner, Gossip, The Temper Trap, Empire of the Sun, Goldfrapp, La Roux, Wolfmother, Rise Against, The Coral, Broken Social Scene, Ellie Goulding, Two Door Cinema Club, Armand Van Helden, Steve Angello, Simian Mobile Disco, Erol Alkan, Steve Aoki, A-Trak, Aeroplane
While there’s loads there to keep a wide range of music fans happy, there will no doubt be some dismayed folks who wanted to see Vampire Weekend / Hot Chip playing at Electric Picnic instead. As Oxegen continues to dwarf it’s more high-brow rival, MCD have shown time and time again that they’ve got the pull to get pretty much anyone they want to play.
So if you want to see Broken Social Scene air their new album this summer, stop complaining and dig out your wellies – a lot of the event’s past problems have been ironed out, and unless you’re allergic to the youth of today you’re going to miss out on some great bands.
Just be glad it’s not Kings of Leon yet again (looks like Slane for them). Change is good.
