Indiependence 2009 Preview

So who’s off to Mitchelstown then?

Indiependence ’09 kicks off this weekend with the most ambitious festival to be held in Mitchelstown looking to put what started as a local event on the national stage. Guesslist will be there for the weekend with frequent twitter updates and a full review next week.

If you’re Indiependence bound you can get your site map here and timetable here.

Who are we looking forward to? The 202′s and Travega are two acts we’ll see out of curiosity to kick start the weekend on the Bavaria Stage, be we’ll be spending lots of time in the Cyprus Avenue stage. We’ve been told good things about Pocket Promise, (today The Ticket describes their  album I’ve Been Here For Ages as “chockablock with sky-scraping melodies and radio-friendly indie tunes”) so they’ll get a look in.

Then it’s back to the main stage for Mitchelstown-regulars and nostalgiatastic Stone Roses Experience, before we run our Cyprus Avenue quartet of Heathers, RSAG, MJEX and Fight Like Apes before finishing the evening with headliners Ocean Colour Scene.

Onto Sunday, again the Cyprus Avenue stage piques our interest, with Ian Whitty & The Exchange, Dark Room Notes and the Villagers keeping us there before we are Bavaria Stage bound to see if the Delerentos play any new material from their forthcoming album. We may well check out some of Director’s set along with The Frank & Walters before taking in the Super Furry Animals fest closing shenanigans.

So are we leaving anyone out? Who are you looking forward to? Remember that the pubs in Mitchelstown (less than a 10 minute walk from the site) will have a bar extension until 2am, so the festivities dont stop when Indiependence does.

Midsummer Sounds

We’ve been raving about Spotify for awhile now, but given that it’s not ‘offically’ available here yet we’re looking to other services to share our playlists. For a round-up of some recent favourites we’ve given 8tracks a go, and it’s been good, very similar to the pre-legal scuttering of Muxtape.

Tracklisting:
1 The Octopus Project – Wet Gold
2 Black Moth Super Rainbow – Twin of Myself (Go! Team remix)
3 The Parking Lot Experiments – Alligator (Grizzly Bear cover)
4 jj – Things Will Never Be The Same
5 Years – Binary Blues
6 Super Extra Bonus Party – Sonora (feat Ann Scott)
7 Yo La Tengo – More Stars Than There Are in Heaven
8 Oneida – 10:30 at the Oasis

The mix is a bit of a chilled out/blissed out affair, hope you like it.
