No more LCD Soundsystem?

It looks like James Murphy’s LCD Soundsystem are finished, with the various members set to focus on other groups and projects under the DFA roof.

In an interview with BBC6 Music, LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip band member Al Doyle said “I don’t think James is going to do anything more under that name. I think he’d like to do something with the same personnel possibly next year.

We were thinking of doing something where we find a lot of the old disco singers in New York that might still be around from the 70s, and get them in as guest vocalists with LCD as a backing band, and tour around as a disco heroes style show.”

Update: James Murphy has come out and quashed the rumours, instead announcing plans for the next LCD Soundsystem album! Thanks to Nialler9 for the tip.

Gigs galore: In Cork Guess List will be taking in Adebisi Shank in The Whiskey tonight and lamenting the fact that Halves are scheduled to play in The Pavilion at the same time. Kila play Cypress Avenue on Saturday night. During the week we hope to take in a free gig or two.

Dublin is busy-busy with live music this weekend. Tonight: Don Caballero in ALT, Benga in the Twisted Pepper, and the Bestival reunion thingy in POD has a pretty good lineup. Saturday sees TV on the Radio in Tripod and Cut Copy in The Village. On Sunday, The Presets play The Village and Jay Reatard will be in Whelans (though venue is no longer listed, last minute move?).

DiS have their 2009 predictions up. Already? Includes recent Guess List faves Crystal Antlers and Women. Also liking Wavves.

Rolling Stone lists the 100 greatest singers of all time. Bono 32, Van Morrison 24.

Frankie Poullain (former bassist in The Darkness) is publishing his memoirs. So what? Well, he’s actually very entertaining and irreverent about the whole thing. This excerpt makes for great reading, especially the details of their heyday relationship with the NME.

Bon Iver announces a new EP to be released in January.
